5 TIPS TO DECORATE YOUR LIVING ROOM

By SATISH BABUSENAN

Hello all! Here is a list of things to tick off on your list when you set about redesigning your home. It can be great fun if you have your bag of tricks; or a nightmare if you left it outside your door!

Jokes aside, let’s tread on into our topic.

Here are 5 basic things you’ll need to use in a well-designed living room. Let’s tackle the fellers one by one.

1. FURNITURE
Unless you are Saint Nobody living in a cave (and then you won’t be reading this blog) you’ll need furniture. Here are the details and how to choose them.

SOFA.
The sofa is going to be the biggest item in there. Unless you mean that enormous TV on the wall. When you choose a sofa, choose a confortable one. They come in many kinds. Very soft, medium soft and hard. Choose a hard one if you have back trouble or are getting old and so getting there. Choose a real soft one if you like to sink deep and relax. Or a medium one if that’s your style. However, choose a light coloured one. We recommend white, beige or grey. Will look tasteful. The upholstery can be of leather (will smell nice, feel rich), or leatherette (equally good and washable) or fabric.

AN ACCENT CHAIR.
Sofa sets are so out of date. Boring. Go for an individual sofa, a club chair or wing chair or a different design and an accent chair of quite a different colour. We recommend pastel shades. More subtle, you see.

2. CURTAINS AND RUGS
Hang those curtains from as high up the wall as you can. Get them to go down as close to the floor as is convenient. Will make your room look bigger. Use a layering of sheers and blackout curtains if you like. And, there’s nothing as good as like good old sunlight streaming into a room!
And don’t forget that rug. Get the biggest that your budget will allow!

3. PLANTS, TWIGS AND FRUITS
Bring plants into your room. They are life and will make your life feel lively (no pun intended). Or get some tastefully designed vases and put some twigs into it. Fruits in a bowl are so appetizing, provided they’re fresh, of course. So use them with caution.

4. BOOKS
Books open the doors to enlightenment, they say. Or did I just make that up? But you get the point. It’s nice to have some well designed coffee table books on the table or arranged on table tops, consoles, etc. It’ll be wise to find well designed books (if possible, well written too!) with neatly designed covers.

5. FRAGRANCES
This is one of those things we’d normally not think of but is unavoidable when it comes to presenting your living room. Choose a fragrance of your liking and have it waft through your interior! Will add to your experience and also delight your visitors.

So your bag of tricks is above. Use it well, my friend!
